Mangalore: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district units of the Janata Dal(S) took out a padayatra in Mangalore and Manipal respectively in support of several of their demands.
Memoranda were submitted to the governor through the Deputy Commissioners of the two districts respectively. Some of the demands enlisted are to revive the Brahmavar Sugar Factory o issue title deeds to poor residing in government lands, and also steps to rectify the discrepancies in distribution of ration cards.
A demand was also placed forth to provide adequate compensation to those displaced due to the UPCL, ISPRL and Suzlon projects.
Several party leaders including former minister and senior JD(S) leader Amarnath Shetty took part in the protest.
