Mangalore: Jagotik Konkani Songhotton (Global Konkani Organization) which has 126 Konkani organizations from 13 countries from around the world as its members, is making an earnest effort to facilitate an intellectual discussion with inputs from outside Konkani, so that a democratic solution that it wishes to find, will have a scientific base, said Eric Ozario, general secretary of JKS.
He was speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on March 6, Tuesday. He said that JKS will organize a ‘National seminar on scripts and languages of modern India, with special reference to Konkani’. Experts, who have researched on the subject, from Dehli, Goa and other parts of the country will be presenting papers which will be discussed.
Dr Valerian Rodrigues, Head of the Centre for political studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, will chair the seminar which will begin at 3 pm on March 10, Saturday and will conclude on March 11, Sunday at 5 pm.
He said that Dr Anvita Abbi, professor of Linguistics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr Alok Rai, professor of English at Delhi University, Dr Asha Sarangi, professor of political studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr Madhavi Sardesai, professor of Konkani, University of Goa and Dr Prathap Naik, Linguist and Researcher, Goa will be the resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the script controversy has plagued the Konkani movement for a very long time now. Despite the damage it has caused to the development of Konkani literature and the unity of the Konkani people, no one has seriously tried to genuinely resolve this issue. The issue, so far has only been tackled at the emotional level.
