16.06.10 Mangalore : A one day massive Dharana on 16th June was held in front of PGM office in Pandeshwar, Mnagalore from 10 Am to 5Pm, on the advice of Joint Action Committee of Unions and Associations of BSNL employees, led by its Convenor, Com. B.M. Hegde who spoke at the meeting.
A letter addressed to BSNL chairman in New Delhi and also to Secretary, Deptt of Tele-Communications (DOT) in Sanchar Bhawan, New-Delhi was read out and sent to the concerned top officers, by V.A.N. Namboodiri, Convenor, JAC at New Delhi. Earlier on 14th June, a lunch hour demonstration had been conducted to press for demands.
The letter expressed disappointment over non-settlement of issues discussed in the agreement on 20-04-2010 after a provisional strike. The time frame of the agreement has been ignored by the Central Ministry of Telecom / IT, with several issues kept pending.
The JAC had one more meeting on 26th May, seeking a waiver for 3 G spectrum charges to be paid by BSNL, but the Management ignored the entire work force and remitted an amount of Rs. 10,700 crores to the Govt of India, without placing the demand made by JAC to pay the benchmark amount of Rs. 1,750 crores.
On 9th June, a meeting of JAC had detailed discussions on the matter and agreed to resort to agitations on 14th and 16th June, to press for early settlement of 6 issues, such as immediate procurement of 10 million lines in 2010 as per earlier assurances etc.,
Those who attended the Dharana meeting on 16th June, included Venugopla Nambiar (Dt Secretary, BSNLEU), Murali, Purushottam Bhat, convenor SM Hegde, and BP Narayana leaders of JAC and the Unions in DK district. Com, Surendran, C.D. Naik, Chandrahas Ullal, Herold, Babu, Thimmamma, Krishna, and Balkrishna Naik among others were present.
