Mangalore : The field of journalism is very effective in changing the society, said Dr Vijaya Prakash, Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner.
He was speaking after inaugurating the library and event organized on the occasion of The Press Day held at Mangalore Press Club on July 1, Thursday.
He also said that, the journalists working with an objective to bring new things in society must be appreciated. The proposal has been sent to deputy commissioner to rename the road leading to press club as ‘Patrika Bhavan Road’.
The suggestion, opinion, reviews and criticism by the journalists through their media will get new changes in the mind of the people of the society, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sadananda Suvarna, National award winning film said that earlier the film making was taking place in different with an aim of new experiment, but now commercial films are produces just for money making.
The biggest film film industry is based in Bombay, that is Bollywood and other linguistic industry are copying it. For the commercial film makers, film making is a project, where they decide the ingredients to make money, he added.
Today the best quality films are available only two percent, hence the changes are required in the film industry. The development in the industry will only be possible if the people take the field seriously with an aim to improve it.
His films like Ghatashraddha, had taken eight year to telecast on television, even after investing the amount of Rs two lakhs. But now the same film may be required around Rs 50 lakhs to produce, he said.
He also shared his experience on his television serial production Guddeda Bhootha and plays like Court Martial and Male Nilluvavarege, on the occasion.
Later two of his films were screened on the occasion. Press Club General Secretary P. B. Harish Rai made the welcome speech and proposed the vote of thanks. President of DK District Working Journalists’ Association Harsha presided over the programme. Association general secretary Guruvappa N T Balepuni and Press Club President Anand Shetty were present on the dais.
Large number of journalist from various media and students of journalism were present on the occasion.
