Mangaluru : A group of allegedly assaulted 30-year-old Mohammed Asif, a reporter with evening daily, near the bus stand in Saralikatte near Uppinangady on Friday night.

According to the police, Asif was returning to his home in Barya village on his motorcycle.

A few persons came in another vehicle and waylaid Asif. They reportedly pushed him from the motorcycle and rained him blows. Asif has been admitted to a local hospital.

Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said that the journalist has named one person as part of the group.

He has not mentioned in the complaint the reason for the assault. Neither Asif nor his family members have reported of any life threats from the alleged assaulters.
