Mangalore, July 14, 2012: The members of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union organized a condolence meet and paid tribute to the Veteran journalist Udupi Narasimha Rao at Press Club on July 14, Saturday.
Speaking on his relation with Rao, Jayaram Rai said that he was a simple and straight forward media man.
He also said that Rao was a second generation journalist in his family and he was inspired to the field from his father Govind Rao, who was also a journalist. Mr Rao used to go on his work by walking and never used vehicle. The young journalists must be inspired by this thoughts and follow him as his role model, he said.
Senior reporter of The Hindu Govind Belgaunkar said that Mr Rao was a dedicated journalist and was representing the Mangalore news published in the paper during his tenure.
The deceased journalist passed away at his residence near the Kadri temple on Friday, July 13. He had started his journalistic career in 1947, working for the The Mail from Madras and Times of India in Mumbai. He also worked for Matrubhoomi Malayalam daily for 12 years and in The Hindu from 1965 to 1993 till his retirement.
Later the journalists paid a floral tribute to the portrait of Udupi Narasimha Rao.
