Mangalore: Journalists of the print and visual media staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on November 8, Thursday to condemn the arrest of TV journalist Naveen Soorinje in the home stay attack case.
Taranath Kapikad of Janashree Media, who spoke on the occasion, said the arrest of Naveen was intentional as he was an eye witness to the homestay attack. He demanded that the government should intervene and initiate appropriate action.
Pushparaj Jain, bureau chief of Vartha Bharathi urged for the withdrawal of the case against Naveen immediately. P B Harish, President of District Working Journalists’ Union and Ivan D’Souza, KPCC secretary also spoke on the occasion and blamed the state government for the arrest of Naveen Soorinje.
Journalists representing various newspapers and channels and web portals took part in the protest.
