Mangalore : Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo urged the state government to revive the existing Non-Resident Indian Forum form a separate NRI cell for the benefit of immigrants of coastal region.
Addressing the press meet on Saturday, he said that there s need of working cell of the NRI Forum to address the problems of expatriates hailing from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada districts working abroad.
Lobo said that NRI face several problems related to issuance of their passports and translation of official documents. This is required since there is no help is acquired to them during the time of investments.
He said also said that most of the people who went to Middle East countries were from poor economical background. There is no organization for them to approach their problem regard to their living or working conditions and during emergency conditions too.
Lobo said that the children of NRIs were unable to appear for CET examination in the state after their pre-university level courses in abroad; hence the education department must address the issue and grant permission to NRI students to appear for the CET examination in the state.
Roshan Rodrigues, president of Karnataka NRI Forum, Jeddah, was present at the conference.
