Mangalore : The Ayodhya verdict was quite a unique judgement and the people in the district have maintained peace and harmony, said IGP Alok Mohan, Western Range.
He was speaking at the media persons at the press meet held at his office on October 4, Monday. He also said that the leaders of all the religion have taken a great effort to maintain peace including the media with the healthy reports and projecting it in a right way.
Speaking on the problem of naxal harassed areas, Alok Mohan said that the government has taken measures and now the situation is under control. The people of Malnad area are also not supporting the nasal activities. The government has also conducted a ‘Jan Sampark Savar’ campaign to create awareness among the people, he informed.
The police department has also established a process for the naxals to surrender themselves and come in the right path. The department has also taken a role to ensure the naxals to provide an opportunity to work in the mainstream direction.
Explaining about the surrender policy, he said that the policy has been updated on June 19, 2010 and it has three categories like Red zone, Grey zone and Green zone. The Red zone is for the listed underground members of Naxals, Grey zone for unlisted members and Green zone for active over ground person of naxal groups. The state government will provide financial assistance, support to the families, protection to his life and withdrawal of cases if the criteria are justified and conditions to be fulfilled by the one who surrenders. Apart from it, reward policies of cash prizes for returning of weapons like AK 47 and Pistols etc will also be given, he added.
He said that Venkatesh resident of Chickmagalur was the first person to surrender himself. He was the founder of naxal movement in Sringeri area and was in the Red zone. There were three cases against him and he is wanted in Jaipura police station case, he stated.
