24.06.10 Mangalore : The ADB consultants have recommended an integrated solution for the coastal protection at Ullal, but the government has not requirement even to the present day, said MLA UT Khader.
Speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office, he said that According to the ADB consultant, re-alignment of the northern breakwater and shortening of Southern breakwater on the Ullal entrance is one of the components for the protection, while the other two are Construction of three offshore multi-purpose submerged reefs and nourishment of beach, he added.
He also said that re-alignment of breakwaters was discussed in depth in the TEC meeting on July 10, 2009. But he feels that the present alignment of the breakwaters need not be disturbed in the first phase of the ADB Project, but is must primarily concentrate on providing protection to the eroding coastline at Ullal.
When the government is getting lot of time to discuss in the cabinet meeting, why it not gets time to approve and sanction Rs 223 crore for the construction of retaining wall, he asked.
The Nethravathi river pipeline has been damaged and 75 percent of water flows out and now the engineers from Puna must arrive to repair it. He also urged, DC V Ponnuraj must make a complete study on the matter and find people who damage the pipelines and charge criminal case against them.
