Mangalore : Justice MF Saldahna speaking at the press meet on March 23, Wednesday said that he had presented a People’s Enquiry Tribunal Report on the atrocities committed against minorities personally to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who has given a special assurance to the citizens of the state that the central government will ensure the welfare and security of all citizens particularly those belonging to the minorities and the weaker sections in the Karavali Area.
He also said that Hamid Ansari, vice president has expressed deep regret over the use of violence against members of the minority communities and particularly their places of worship and has very clearly stated that this is intolerable in a democratic set-up and will be effectively curtailed.
P Chidambaram, home minister, stated in no uncertain terms that the safety of the members of the minority communities in the coastal region will be safeguard at all costs and he reiterated the fact that as was done by the Central Government in Mysore, if the need arises, the Central would intervene by deputing special forces for this purpose. Speaking about the Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, he said that he came out very strongly when he stated that it was a matter of deep distress to him as he belonged to this part of the country, to find that the state government machinery had identified itself with communal elements in the unleashing violence against members of the minority communities and their places of worship. He was particular severe on the subordinate Judiciary of the region which had completely failed to protect the rights of the victims in the face of the most serious human rights atrocities.
