Mangalore: Former Mayor K. Ashraf(Congress) was taken on Sunday night for questioning in connection with the sex attack on a 13 year old girl, creating uproar in Bunder among residents, Congress leaders and Community members who gathered at the Bunder police station to protest.

Waheed, a married man, is actually wanted in the case, but absconding.

Ashraf was let off by police, bowing to public pressure. MLAs Khader and AC Jain and KPCC leader Ivan D’Souza, besides other Congress leaders, visited the Bunder police station.

Speaking to the media later, Ashraf said he was busy with a ‘Mouleed’ ceremony at his house, when ACP Ravindra Gadadi visited him Gadadi asked for Waheed. As Ashraf did not know, he was taken to police station in a police jeep.

He said he would have helped in the police investigation and there was no need to use force.
