Bangalore: State Co-operation minister Laxman Savadi today indicated that Karnataka MP, Rajya Sabha Vice-Chairman, K.Rehaman Khan was implicated in a scandal of Rs102 crore deal in Amanat Co-op. Bank with a complaint registered against him by City’s Commercial Street police.
Khan headed the Amanat bank during 1989-2002 (14 years), when he lent Bank funds without any proper security, to persons known to him, to the tune of Rs 102 crores, which was covered up till now. There were relatives, friends, bank employees and 46 ‘benamy” (proxy) persons in whose name, loans were given. The Amanat bank lost all that money by Khan’s misdeeds,” it was alleged.
Departmental officers conducted an enquiry and got full details. Presently, the Commercial Street Police have been told of the Scandal and a case is made out. Savadi stated that the UPA (Central) govt. would be duly informed about irrelugalar loans and losses handled by Khan in his time.
Khan denied any notice from anybody and stated that he resigned the Bank post in Aug 2002. It was a political stunt, he argued, denying any role in loans given.
