Udupi: Three years have elapsed since I thought of assembling all Taluk K.S.P chiefs and district units in one place and give them a cup of coffee, but there was no money then, but now I can order meals for them, said Dr. Nalluru Prasad, President of Karnataka Sahitya Parishat in Udupi at a general body meeting called on Thursday at MGM College of all Taluk units and district units office-bearers for the first time.
He stressed upon economic self-sufficiency for KSP, with liberal donations from Govt., and other bodies. If Kannada suffers in any way as language of the state, KSP would step in to correct the position and reestablish the honour of this language, which has 8 Jnana Peet awardees, Prasad warned.
He blamed the state government officials for the non-recognition of Kannada in every sphere of administration in the state and capital.
Nalluru said 2 crores of rupees for research and dictionaries and 3 to 4 crores of rupees for various Taluk conferences were secured by K.S.P from state government in his 3 years’ rule as President of K.S.P.
The delegates shouted slogans against MES for opposing a resolution passed in Belgaum City Corporation to congratulate Dr.Chandrashekara Kambara on his winning Jnan Peeta award of Rs.7 lakhs recently. Shambhaji chavan of MES was named and condemned by office-bearers of K.S.P in Udupi meeting.
Dr.Kambara and Dr.Champa(winner of the Pampa Mahakavi award) were complimented.
Dr.Prasad stated that every Kannada District in state had received Rs.10 lakhs and yet Rs. 1crore was saved by careful spending towards a stabilization Fund.
75% of the money from sale of books and rents on Hall has been saved, while only 25% balance was spent on various activities.
In Channapatna, a Taluk conference was treated as All India K.S.P Taluk conference, while spending lakhs of rupees, he pointed out.
Past President of K.S.P, Harikrishna Punarooru, speaking after the inauguration of the present event, observed that the state showed negligence towards Kannada medium schools. While appointing teachers, aided schools were overlooked. KSP employees could not get service benefits either, he added.
K.S.P secretary H.K.Malali Gowda welcomed, while Treasurer Pundalik Halambi made opening remarks. Convenor P.Mallikarjunappa thanked the gathering. Host Ambatanaya.M, was present with others.
