Mangalore : Indian Women’s Kabbaddi Team captain Mamatha Poojary, who won the World Cup at Patna, receives a rousing welcome at the Mangalore Airport where she landed at 7:30 p.m. on March 11 Sunday.
A large group including her friends, family members, and well wishers had gathered at the airport to greet her.
Speaking on the occasion, Mamatha Poojary expressed her happiness of defeating Iran in the World Cup final.
Speaking about her sports career, she said that in her college days, she was interested in playing volleyball in her college days, but always had a softer corner for Indian game kabbaddi and further too will continue playing for the country.
Ms. Poojary has also the member of Indian Women’s Kabbaddi Team, which won the gold at the Asian Games previous year.
She expressed her gratefulness to her coach Ramesh Suvarna, for encouraging her to play kabbaddi as a student at Government Junior College, Muniyal. She also thanked Ramakrishna Hegde, the physical director at Government Junior College Muniyal and the physical director at Gokarnanatheshwar College in Purushottam for their encouragement and support.
Mayor Gulzar Banu and MLA Yogish Bhat were present.
