Mangalore: The 3-day crowded programme at the Town Hall arranged by Kadri Dance School came to an end on Sunday, with Union Minister M.Veerappa Moily participating in the valedictory function, where in he told a large gathering in his presidential address that an art, such as dance form on stage, needed research, experiments, innovations and creativity to sustain itself in public appeal. Of course, the Bharathanatyam is classical and ancient, yet certain timely modifications based on classical/traditional styles, could provide it a greater appeal, curiosity and taste.
Moily went on to say that the essence of every art form was development on local culture that it hailed from, as in Odissi or Koochupudi. As a flowing river, the art form has to go under go local modifications that enhance attractiveness,without compromising on basic expressions and feelings.
A. Eashwaraiah, noted art critic, in his speech pointed out that about 200 scholarly performances were held on the coastal region every year. Ranga Pravesha(entry of new dancers) occur 3 a month. The society also has changed in recent few decades. Malathi Moily, herself a dancer, A.J.Shetty and Na Da Shetty among others were present.
