Mangaluru: The 40-year-old Kadri Market is all set to get a facelift as the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has proposed to a full-fledged market complex at an estimated cost of Rs 14.71 crore.
Noting the lack of basic facilities at the old market facility, former MLA J R Lobo had mooted the proposal for the construction of a new well-equipped market complex here.
As per reports, the tender process is in its final stages and the work on the construction of the new facility is expected to start in the first week of December. Apart from the 25 cents of land, on which the old market is situated, the MCC plans to make use of the adjoining 45 cents of land for the new market.
Currently, the civic body has started building temporary sheds for the nearly 45 vendors who carry on trade in the old market here. The temporary structure is being built on a vacant spot located opposite the old market building.
