Mangalore: A memorable function was arranged in Kadri Park today (Dec16) to remember the sacrifices of their training and lives of those brave soldiers of the country lost in a war for Bangla Desh against West Pakistan in 1971.
CPC Seemanth Kumar Singh paid rich tributes to the Indian soldiers who took 93,000 Pakistan soldiers as prisoners in a war that freed Bangla Desh in the east from Pakistan in the west.
The Day of victory was organised by the DK dt. Former Soldiers’ Association. The speeches made today referred to armed Indian forces engaged in battling terrorists, naxalites and Maoist insurgents, apart from cross border infiltrators.
CPC Singh laid a wreath at the Kadri Park memorial for brave soldiers who died. He assured that police personnel would extend all co-operation to rehabilitate ex-servicemen and protect their welfare. These servicemen had ensured peaceful life to citizens by guarding Indian borders, he stated.
The CPC volunteered to hold the memory function at the Kadri police station premises from 2011 onwards, to help the public police relationship to blossom.
MCC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Prakash who was present on the occasion, praised the role of servicemen who continue to guarantee the security and safety of common citizens, in their uniforms and strong disciplined acts. He asked people of the city to consider how the Army, Navy and Air powers had served them and to repay their exceptional merits by raising memorials and more. He felt highly satisfied with the renovation done to the statue of U. Srinivas Mallya near the Newport and to the Veera Yodhara Smaraka established close to the Kadri Park. He took the opportunity to assure that he would strive to make Mangalore City Corporation as one of the best such in the country.
Retd. Col. Sharat Bhandary, Radhakrishna Shetty of W.I.T Walter Mendes, Chairman – WIT and Lions’ Governor J.K Rao were present on the poignant occasion.
