Mangalore: A journalists delegation led by Harish Rai, president of DK Working Journalists Union, met DC Dr. Channappa Gowda on Monday, and gave him an appeal addressed to CM Sadananda Gowda, to protect photographers and news writers from hooligans.
The memo forwarded by DC, referred to an attack made on Shashidar P., a cameraman with local Kannada channel, by a gang of hooligans during the Talapady Kambala(buffalo race) last Saturday under floodlights.
The memo had sought Government protection to working people in their spheres. It urged an enquiry into the causes of and persons conducting the attack, and prayed for appropriate action against the culprits for man-handling the TV cameraman.
Some goons are involved in these coastal pastimes and attacks on TV/News reporters, is Common. Such a trend must be broken soon. The folk sport of Tulunad is supported by state Government now.
Organisers of events have to look after media persons who cover them, the Memo urged.
