Kasaragod: The police have applied Sn.144 of IPC in Kanhangad and Hosdurga areas, in view of rioting by local mobs, and cases of arson and stone-throwing that have resulted in losses to vehicles and 12 houses, besides several shops.
The rioting and mob fury started after a rickshaw was set on fire, belonging to a DYFI activist P. Ajesh(26) near Muriyanavi at Hosadurga in Kerala.
The commercial shops have been closed for indefinite period. Bus services have been paralysed. In view of continued instances of public violence and loss to property, Ambalathara police have promulgated Sn.144(IPC) which prohibits assembly for 5or more persons in one place.
DYFI worker Priyesh(24) has been injured in Police lathicharge and tear gas attacks made on Oct10 against a mob, and he is in a hospital at Mangalore. The CPI(M)has alleged that Muslim League workers had attacked their office by stones, and SI Unnikrishnan was injured by such throws, while dispersing crowds. The mob violence has continued on Tuesday. The police then conducted a Flag March in Kanhangad.
Several public areas are under tension and police are vigilant about spread of violence.
