Mangalore : The Kannada and Cultural Department and Karavali Kurubara Sangha celebrated Kanakadasa Jayanti as a part of 523rd birth anniversary of Saint Kanakadasa at Town Hall on November 24, Wednesday.
District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar, inaugurated the event and said that today only the Kuruba community is celebrating the Kanakadasa Jayanti, but it must also be celebrated by the people without discrimination of caste and religion.
Every one must safeguard and follow the principles of kanakadasa and must respect his contribution made to the society. Every one is aware of the facts and miracle took place in Udupi Krishna Mutt during his time, he added.
Presiding over the event, MLA N Yogesh Bhat, said that we must respect kanakadasa’s contribution in the field Keerthana’s.
He also said that, the 200 Keerthana’s written by Kanaka Dasa inspire people to improve their life with respect. His work ‘Mohanatarangini’, is one of the outstanding poem out of his 5 works.
The celebration must not be limited for a day, but it must be followed throughout the year. There are many truth of life hidden in Dasa Keerthana’s, he added.
Sondha Bhaskar Bhat, delivered the seminar on the life and achievement of Kanakadasa.
DC Shubodh Yadav, Abdul Rahiman, H Prasanna Kumar, B Nagaraj Shetty, M Basavaraj and Prakash were present on the dais. M Manjula welcomed the guests and gathering.
Proir to the programme, the organization held the procession from Sharavu Temple to Town Hall. Mayor Rajani Duggana inaugurated the procession.
