Mangalore: The District level Rajyotsava celebrations was held at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on November 1, Friday in the august presence of district minister CT Ravi and various other dignitaries. The district level Rajyotsava Awards were also conferred to eminent men on the occasion. The Minister received guard of honour from police, traffic police, NCC and other contingents on the occasion.
Delivering the Rajyotsava day address, Ravi said the state government was striving its level best to promote unity and disallow separatism to raise its ugly head.
He said the government has constituted a committee to oversee the implementation of the Dr Nanjundappa Report for the development of North Karnataka. He also stated that the government was doing its level best to protect and promote Kannada in the state.
The District Level Rajyotsava Awards were conferred on several outstanding achievers including Ronald Anil Fernandes, Mangalore Bureau Chief of Deccan Herald, Azeez Baikampady, KT Gatti for literature, S Prabhaker for Education and several ther achievers.
Other awardees are : Shreedhar Bhandary (Yakshagana), Prakash Karanth Narikombu, Shreedhar Bhat and Mahabala Poojary Kadambodi (Social service), Rohini Subbarathnam Kanchana (Music), Jeevan Ram Sullia (Theatre), Lokaiah Sere (Folk), Edward Taccode (Agriculture), Mohan Sonangeri (Painting), Sharada Mani Shekar (Dance), Ashok Vardhan (Environment), Ramakrishna Ashram (Organization), Gayathri Navada (Research) and Kodipady Narayana Joisa (Religion and Culture).Sahana Poojary and Sadananda Prabhu were presented special awards for their contribution to sports.
School children presented attractive cultural programmes.
