Bantwal : In the case of murder of a youth and inflicting of serious injuries on two others at Kanyana in the taluk on August 30. The police have achieved a breakthrough A team from the local police station as well as Vittal and district crime intelligence bureau have arrested Two assailants and the car as well as weapons used in the said attack were seized from Salethur in the taluk on Friday September 4.

It was a planned attack by a gang who reportedly arrived from Paivalike in Kasargod district. They had had planned to attack a five-member gang from Paivalike that had come to attend a marriage function at Kanyana. Two had succeeded in escaping, while one of the members of was the rival gang had been hacked to death, while two others had suffered serious injuries in this attack. It is said that after the split in the Paivalike gang, Asif and Riaz had made an attempt on the life of Zia from Paivalike a year back, and Nappate Rafiq, who is a staunch associate of Zia, planned to take on the rival gang because the enmity arising out of this act.

Rafiq alias Nappate Rafiq alias Muhammed Rafiq (26) from Attegoli in Kayyara village, Uppala, and Paddu alias Padmanabha (24) from Bayikatte in Paivalike, who was driving the car that was carrying the attacker were arrested. A group got split into two and became rival gangs and that is the result of the attack . On information provided by Ikku alias Muhammed Iqbal Poyyagadde, the arrests were made. Car of the attackers had developed snags and Ikku was arrested for helping the gang to flee in his auto rickshaw after the crime, as the who provided the information leading to the arrest.

District superintendent of police, Dr S D Sharanappa, had supervised the entire operation while other police officials and othr personnel conducted the raid. Case has been registered against those involved in the murderers, and against those who provided shelter to gang members and helped them to escape. It is learnt all of them have escaped fearing for their lives. A number criminal cases are pending against arrested Nappate Rafiq for murder, robbery, abduction, theft, and cheating, in police stations across Kasargod district as well as Bantwal, Puttur, and Madikeri taluks, He has been successfully getting released on bail in all of them.
