Mangalore: DC DK Subodh Yadav called a preparatory meeting on the eve of celebrating the annual Karavali Utsava (Coastal Festival) occurring this year form Dec.22. He called upon those officials and representatives concerned to take into account local cultures and diverse traditions and reflect them in the scheduled festival at the year end. He asked designers of the festival to make it meaningful and according to the various tastes of local people. The DC is also the Executive President of the celebration committee.
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala has agreed to inaugurated this festival which is presented in Kadri Park and Exhibition grounds of the City.
56 artistes will perform from 6 to 9 pm during the period of the Festival. Kadri Park will have cultural programmes and shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays every week from Dec 22, 2010 for a month, ahead. The final programme on 23 January, 2011 would be held at the new Mangalore beach, said Mangala Nayak, assistant director of Kannada and culture.
Additional DC, Prabhakar Sharma, promised to make the festival a bright and victorious occasion with milling crowds attending the various programme daily.
All artistes performing during the festival will be suitably paid without any hitches or delays, as per order issued by DC to organizers. A week-long Yakshagana festival will be a part of this celebration. Yaksha Academy member revealed that child artistes and talented children will be suitably exposed to this benevolent opportunity from morning till evening during the week.
Several Athletics competitions are on the cards to promote Games and sports for physical health. Football, Kabaddi, Weight lifting, Shuttle badminton are in the competitive fields.
Several district level departments officials and services organisations representatives joined in the discussions at the preliminary meeting to make the month-long public event a grand success.
