Mangaluru: Annual Karavali Uthsav to be held in the city from December 23. For the first time in the history of Uthsav youth festival will be organized on December 29 and 30.
Speaking to the reporters district in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai said that for the first time Karavali Uthsav will be held in taluk level also. In Bantwal it wll be organized on December 19, in Sullia, Belthangady and Puttur taluk Uthsav will be celebrated on December 18.
The 45-day exhibition will be held as part of the Utsav at Karavali Utsav Ground. The Utsav will be inaugurated at 4 pm on December 23. A grand procession will be takne out from Kadri Park to the Utsav Ground at 4.30 pm on December 23. The procession will depict the rich cultural legacy of the land. Around 5,000 to 6,000 students will take part in the procession. The cultural programmes will be inaugurated by veteran artiste Kadri Gopalnath. On account of youth festival, students will present cultural programmes at Kadri Park at 5 pm on both the days, he said.
Minister said Beach Utsav will be held at Panambur beach from December 30 to January 1.
Various sports events like skating, beach volleyball, beach throwball, Yoga, boat race, stand-up pedaling, food festival and cultural programmes will be held. On December 31, a kite festival will be held. The valedictory of Beach Utsav and Karavali Utsav will be held on the shores of Panambur beach on January 1 at 6 pm, where ‘Karavali Gaurava Prashasti’ will be presented, he said.
Rai said sports competitions will be organised as part of the Utsav. Accordingly, volleyball competitions for high school and PUC students will be held at Mangala Stadium at 9.30 am on December 24. District-level open hockey tournament will be held for men at Karavali Maidan at 10 am on December 31. Swimming competitions for primary and high school students will be held at MCC swimming pool at Ladyhill at 9 am on January 1.
The cultural programmes of the Utsav are: December 23—‘Madhura Geethegalu’ by Ajay Warrior, Sahana Bharadwaj at Kadri Park 7 pm; December 24 — Carnatic music by Kotakkal Ranjath Warrior and Mujikkulam Harikrishnan at 6 pm, classical dance by Srikanth and Ashwathi, Chennai, at 7.30 pm at Kadri Park, Sugama Sangeetha by Harinakshi and team at 6 pm, Kathak and Bharatanatyam by Anjali and team at 7.30 pm at Karavali Utsav Ground; December 25— Udayaraga, ‘Kolalu Dwandwa Vadana’ by Krishna Pavankumar, Archana Priyadarshini at 6 am, Carnatic music recital by Ramakrishna Murthy at 6 pm, dance ballet ‘Mahamaya’ at 7.30 pm at Kadri Park, folk songs by Anil Kadaba at 6 pm, Bharatanatyam by Nritya Saurabha Natyalaya at 7.30 pm at Karavali Utsav Maidan.
