Mangaluru : Param Vir Chakra awardee Subedar Yogendra Singh Yadav. said “Indian soldier fight till his last Breathe and he never thinks for his life, because this land is so sacred. While referring to his country, calls it his mother land. While delivering a talk on “Words of a Real Hero” organized by Yuva Brigade, at Canara High School, gave an inspring speech here on Sunday August 9.
These good qualities and culture come from parents and if followed by individuals, will do good to the nation. We have to put the nation before us, and think of what we can give to it, rather than asking what the nation has given to us,he said. I joined the army after I was inspired by my father who has fought many battles and my fist posting was in Srinagar for counter terrorism. What I read in the books of history, and about its brave soldiers like Abdul Ashraf and Major Hoshiar Singh and I got to head a regiment said Yadav .Yadav was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his bravery in the Kargil War, where he had killed four Pakistani soldiers and survived several bullets.
Recounting his experience of how he went home on leave on May 1, 1999, got married on May 5 and had to return to duty on May 20. On reaching Srinagar, I came to know that a war (Kargil War) was about to start and battalion from Manas sector was shifted to Dras sector. Tiger Hill,at Dras sector was extremely cold and we were operating from there. At a very young age I got an opportunity to serve the country and once in uniform, each soldier thinks that he should do something for his country. Braving harsh situations, our soldiers fought bravely against the enemy.
The only aim of the Indian army was to take over the Tiger Hill, which is the highest Position in Dras Sector, and its soldier’s simply move forward without getting bogged down by the thought of the enemies. To be at the top, we have no option but to climb Tiger Hill which is a is also a very challenging job to fight the enemies at the top. Inspite of suffering serious injuries we fought and managed to finish entire platoon of the off the enemy he said.
After sustaining bullet wounds on hands and legs, and even when we had witnessed the death of out soldier in front of us which was heartbreaking, had to continue fighting. Pakistani army who had advanced arms. Despite serious injuries, I succeeded in conveying the message to the commanding officer about the plan of the Pakistani army plot to bombard the battalion of Indian post and at any cost, and this message was conveyed to seniors so that life of Indian army personnel could be saved. ” he said.
Yadav said that he did not allow himself to be shattered, inpite of the death of his colleagues and he fought so bravely and killed more than eight Pakistani soldiers. The Pakistani army even stooped to the level of pelting stones on the cantonments, but our team work ultimately achieved success. We soldiers will fight till our last bullet and till our last breathe and it is only the nation that is their minds. Cowards only attack from behind and so are the Pakistani army he added.
Consider this occasion farmer Frank Fernandes was also felicitated for his heroic deed of stopping the train after getting to know the fragmentation on Bondel-Pachanady railway track recently.Grenadier Subedar Yogendra Singh Yadav was honoured on this occasion. He also released the logo of 1965 ‘War of Tankers’ to mark its golden jubilee.
Chakravarthy Sulibele also spoke on this occasion. Press briefing was also held by Yadav, where he stated, that many youths have made up their minds to join the Indian army which is a good sign. People in Jammu and Kashmir are supporting Indian army. We can see a positive change in this regard.”
Param Vir Chakra, is the highest gallantry award and tTill now 23 soldiers have been awarded posthumously and one was awarded while in service and the other one has retired.
