Mangalore: Families of ex-servicemen paid tributes to the memory of 543 soldiers who laid down their lives between May and July 1999 at the Kashmir border hills, while drawing out invading Pakistan Army personnel across the Indian borders by lighting candles and offering flowers at the memorial set up on Kadri Hills at 7pm on Tuesday here.
The 12th anniversary was organized by local Ex-servicemen’s League and the Lion’s Club. A minute’s silence was observed on the occasion by participants.
Lt. Col. N. Sharat Bhandary, Chairman of ex-servicemen’s Association Radhakrishna Shetty, Brig. I.N Rai, D.R. Belle, Secretary Joachim D’Souza were present among 15 other Kargil veterans and members of patriotic public groups.
A programme of ‘Navaras Utsav’ was held in Don Bosco Hall earlier in city, when Bhandary, Rai and Belle were honoured by ZP-CEO, Dr. K.N Vijaya Prakash.
