Mangalore : Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Trust (R), Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar, Mangalore in co-operation with DK District Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Mangalore is organizing a programme to pay homage to our brave martyrs and commemorate K Kargil Vijaya Diwas on Saturday, 26th July 2014.
All citizens are requested to be present on the occasion, bring a candle to light and also offer floral tributes in remembrance of our martyrs at War Memorial, Kadri at 6.30 PM.
“‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war fought in 1999. Hence, as a part of the programme, a solemn function of lighting candles and offering floral tributes will be held at War Memorial situated near Kadri Park to pay respect to the martyrs. This is a public function in which every patriotic citizen may participate and express solidarity with our brave Jawans,” said Col. N. S. Bhandary, president of DK District Ex-Servicemen’s Association.
“Today we are enjoying freedom and security because of the selfless sacrifice of our brave soldiers. Our Jawans are eternally vigilant and guard our borders round the clock, even braving extreme conditions like the freezing heights of Siachen at an altitude of 18,875 feet. These soldiers deserve our respect and eternal gratitude. Hence I appeal to all people to attend this programme with their children and light a candle in their honour,” said Vijaynath Shetty, Chief Coordinator of Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Trust (R).
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War’s Heroes. Kargil War, which took place in 1999, was one of the toughest wars fought by the Indian Armed Forces. Many of the battles were fought in adverse conditions and in the extreme arctic weather of the Himalayas.
On this day, 26 July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and 527 soldiers from Indian Armed Forces sacrificed their lives during the war.
