Mangaluru : Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy has announced the names of three achievers, who will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Honorary Awards 2014.’
Speaking in a press meet on Monday, Academy President B A Mohammed Haneef said that the honorary awards will be conferred on Prof B A Ichlangodu (Beary research), B A Shamshuddin (literature) and Mohammed Beary Edapadavu (art and education).
The award will be conferred at Beary language convention organised by the Beary Sahitya Academy and Chikkamagaluru Jilla Beary Okkuta at Okkaligara Sabhabavana in Chikkamagaluru on January 10. The award will carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and citation.
Along with the honorary awards, the Academy will confer Academy Puraskar to Mariyam Ismail, A M Sridharan, Umar Farooq Bikkodu (literarture), Ismail Azad Mudigere (literature), K Mohammed Mandagadde (service to country), Moideen Kunhi Gardadi (health), Azal Ayub, B H Noor Mohammed (social work) and Mohammed Iqbal Katipalla (music).
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree are likely to attend the programme.
Haneef said that the Kannada and Culture department has submitted a proposal to increase the amount given to honorary award winners. The government is yet to give its nod for increasing the amount.
The convention will discuss on Beary language, literature, art and culture. The representatives from Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Madikeri, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Mysuru will take part in the convention.
Prof B M Ichalngodu has served in St Agnes College, Sri Mahaveera College, Sri Bhuvanendra College and has been conducting research in Beary culture, and literature. At present he is working on Beary-Kannada-English dictionary and translation of a book on Kanakadasa to Beary language. Some of his works are ‘Tulunadina Muslimaru,’ ‘Vaibhavada naadu Karnataka,’ ‘Nairmalya sootra,’ ‘Islam endarenu,’ ‘grahaka jagruthi,’ and others.
B A Shamshuddin Madikeri has written over 100 poems in Beary language. He had served as the member of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy. Some of his works are ‘Parivarthane,’ ‘Preethiye badukina jeevala,’ ‘Sambadhagalu katha sankalana,’ ‘Muslim janapada kathegalu,’ ‘pavitra Ramzan.’ He has also written books in Jenukruba and Lambani languages.
Y Mohammed Beary Edapadavu, a ex-bank employee has served in the field of education by starting a school in Edapadavu. He has been serving as the President of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi English Medium Schools Federation for the last ten years.
He had conducted Beary cultural programmes by training students in Bengaluru and Mysuru.
