Puttur : Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said the proposed ”Pushpagiri Vanyadhama” (Wildlife Sanctuary) extension project has been shelved following concerns expressed by farmers of Belthangady and Puttur in Dakshina Kannada District.
He told Mediapersons here that the farmers from these two taluks of the district need not to worry over the proposed extension of the project as there was no such proposal before the State Government.
The government had already rejected the ”Pushpagiri Vanyadhama” extension project under the proposed project of Talacauvery National Park by combining the three wildlife sanctuaries- Bramhagiri, Talacauvery and Pushpagiri–as one contigeous area, he said.
He also said he had not approved any new project after assuming the charge as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Any new project would be announced in the coming Budget, he said.
Mangalore Centre of Malenadu Joint Action Committee had strongly opposed the Greater Talacauvery National Park Project, which, if implemented, would displace about 2,20 lakh people (including 50,000 people from Dakshina Kannada) from 120 villages of Karnataka and northern Kerala.
