Bangalore: If everything goes as per plan, then Karnataka will very soon see a total ban on plastics of even a thickness of above 40 microns.
Karnataka Minister for Ecology and Environment said an official order will be issued after consultations with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on the issue.
The minister further stated that though there was already a ban on plastic bags of below 40 microns thickness, it has had no desirable results. He said the ban would be enforced by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Environment Department with the help of local administrative bodies.
The minister also said that common effluent treatment plants would come up in Bangalore and other places for treating sewage water. He further informed that the Environment Department has written to the Primary and Secondary Education Department to take necessary steps to include environment in the school syllabus. All services provided by the KSPCB would be brought under the Sakala scheme of the government, he added.
