Mangaluru: Death sentence given to serial killer, cyanide Mohan Kumar has been reduced to life in prison according to an order from Karnataka high court on Thursday. A high court divisional bench reduced his quantum of punishment awarded by a lower court and said the convicted should be kept in prison for life as he could spoil the lives of women again in the society if he is pardoned and released from the jail under any circumstances. The two member high court bench has ordered to keep the convict in the prison until his death.
The order from high court came following his appeal questioning the death sentence awarded to him by lower court inconnection with four rape and murder cases in Dakshina Kannada. Cyanide Mohan Kumar is accused in 20 rape and murder cases reported in various parts of the state. He used to mix cyanide with food to murder the victims who raped by him. Earlier, Mangaluru additional district and sessions’ court had awarded death sentence inconnection with four rape and murder cases.
