Mangalore : Justice Y Bhaskar Rao the newly appointed Karnataka Lokayukta inaugurated the Mangalore Lokayukta Office located at Kottara Chowki behind DK Zilla Panchayath on April 19, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the lokayukta office was established in a span of one year at the cost of Rs 65 lakhs and today the amount of Rs 95 lakhs has been sanctioned for the expansion of new Lokayukta Building in Mangalore. The office will also enable all the arrangement for the waiting complainants.
Rao, who took charge as Lokayukta on February 14, said that 802 complaints of Lokayukta jurisdiction, 416 pertaining to Upalokayukta-1 jurisdiction and 664 complaints of Upalokayukta-2 jurisdiction were disposed within 46 days.
The amount of Rs 95 lakh has been sanctioned for the expansion of new Lokayukta Building in Mangalore, which will enable all the arrangement for the waiting complainants.
A total of 13,336 complaints pertaining to Lokayukta, Upalokayukta-1 and Upalokayukta-2 jurisdictions were pending when he took charge.
The Lokayukta has got 24 hours of call centre service to address the public allegation and grievance.
In Mangalore the public complaints against the grievance is very less compared to other districts, hence people must have the knowledge of the department and come forward to face the problem and help the Lokayukta to make the government offices free from corruption.
Lokayukta Rao said that from 1-1-2001 to 31-3-2013, around 96 cases have been registered from DK, out of which 6 cases have been given B report, charge sheet to 66 cases and 24 cases are in inquiry stage.
The conviction rate till 2009 in DK is 15.2% while in 2012-13 it is 37.05%. The conviction rate in Bangalore is 66%, he added.
