Mangaluru: Karnataka state government in an attempt to promote higher education in the state, it has decided to setup government run residential colleges in each district in the state, said Karnataka State Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayareddy speaking at inaugural session of Decennial celebrations of Dr P Dayananda Pai-Satheesh Pai Government First grade College in Mangaluru on Saturday. The minister has also launched new graduate and post graduate courses at the college in the session.
In the initial stage, ten districts will get state run residential colleges and they are scheduled to start functioning from next academic year, the minister said. The decision to start residential government colleges came amid rise in the number of college admissions in Karnataka and is expected to benefit the weaker sections of the society, the minister added.
