Mangalore : The resident of Kasba Bengre under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada JDS labour division stage protest in front of D Office on Dec 29, Thursday against proposed fishmeal unit which is ready to set up at play ground.
Addressing the protestors, Mohammed Rafi, president of JDS said that around 10000 resident are residing peacefully at Kasba Bengre and they oppose the Department of Ports to which set up a illegal fish oil mill unit in the area with out taking permission from the residents.
He also said that the site identified for the proposed factory was presently used as playground by the local youth.
He also pointed out that the factory if set up would cause widespread air and water pollution in Kasba Bengre and surrounding areas.
He warned that they would not allow the setting up of the factory which is environmentally hazardous. He also said that they would stage violent protest if they did not withdraw the project.
Vittal Bhandary Harekala, Vasanth Poojary, Rajendra Shetty, Bashir, Siddiq, Choodamani and others were present.
