Mangalore : The seventh edition of Kavita Fest-2013 organised by Kavita Trust will be held at Tumbay on January 13. The event is aimed at promoting Konkani poetry. The programme will be held in association with Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation and Department of Kannada & Culture, Government of Karnataka. Renowned Konkani activist and poet Uday L Bhembre will inaugurate the event.
Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust, informed this to reporters here. He said the event will begin with a colorful procession from BA Hospital, Tumbay and added delegates from Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala participating.
“Bhembre will also present a paper on ‘Poet and his Social Responsibility’ while Maxim Lobo, Bangalore and Nutan Sakhardande, Goa will respond to the same.
The final rounds of ‘Rohan and Lavita Monteiro – All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition’ will also be held on the occasion.
A multilingual poetry session to be held in the afternoon will be presided over by Uday Mhambro from Goa. Dr L Suneetha Bai (all Konkani), Ashraf Apollo (Beary) V S Bhat (Kannada), Amrita Athrady (Tulu) and Kiran Parmar (Hindi) Indu Gersappe, Stany Bela, Wilma Bantwal, Francis Fernandes Cascia, Geo Agrar, Ashok Bhonslo, will recite their poetry.
Fr Prashanth Madtha, Kannada-Konkani writer and lexicographer will be the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony. The winners of The Late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues – Memorial All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition’ will be awarded.Rajay Pawar, poet from Goa will be honored with Mathias Family Poetry Award.
