Mangaluru : Higher Education Minister and officials collude in misleading State by announcing more than 1.5 Lakhs have qualified for higher education.
Dr. C.N.Aswath Narayan minister for higher education in the presence Principal Secretary, Higher Education and officials of Karnataka Examination Authority had held a press conference at KEA and declared the results of Karnataka Common Entrance Test 2020 on 21st August 2020. Minister said, that out of 1,75,349 students who appeared for the entrance test, more than 1.5 lakhs students have qualified for higher education, that is engineering Ayush and Pharma, which was totally false and meant to mislead the state that they are qualified.
Knowing fully well, the minister and officials, with a motive to mislead the State, have stated that more than 1.5 lakhs have qualified, by suppressing the fact, that, the results include, and that of those students, who had failed in II PU this year. Even the failed students have been allowed to right the entrance test because, months before the II PU Exams were conducted, nearly two lakhs students who had applied and were enrolled to write CET. This illegality was committed, suppressing the notification of the Higher Education Secretariat ED 10 TEC dated 28.2.2006, which states the eligibility, that one should have passed II PU or XII std or equivalent examination preceding the entrance test. But in order to show more aspirants that seats available for courses, KEA went ahead and allowed almost two lakhs student who were ineligible even to apply and had collected together a huge sum as entrance fees.
A student who wanted to remain anonymous said, that it is confusing to note, the Notification for KCET 2020 which, should be stating about eligibility for Common Entrance Test, misleadingly states about eligibility for admissions to higher education, which eligiblity should be mentioned only after the entrance test. Only from the year 2015 notification for KCET, eligibility for admission to higher education is mentioned to confuse and mislead people, he said
Many parents have pointed out, that such illegalities of enrolling ineligible students and allowing them to write CET, even if they had failed in II PU, goes on from 2014, onwards, to show more number of aspirants than seats, since, the Karnataka High court verdict in a Writ Petition 51937-38, dt.03-04-2014, had observed in its order, that, if there are more number of seats and less number of aspirants, there is no necessity for entrance test, and if such test is conducted, it is meaningless.
A parent had pointed out, that out of the number of students who had failed in II PU, no one is sure as to how many will write supplementary and get through to be qualified and be eligible for admission to various courses in higher education, and further added, why should the government enroll ineligible students in such huge numbers, knowing fully well that, only 50 to 55 % pass in II PU on an average taken for number of years.
Minister has also said, that Online training “G CET GO” for students to prepare for CET was found successful as he had found many students had used it, and this is also stated with a motive, since the minister has forgotten the fact that, many, many colleges had offered and admissions given to students for integrated courses, also offer coaching for all entrance test in the guise of offering PU courses. Apart from that many coaching centres operated by coaching mafia in the entire State, had too, offered coaching for all entrance test right from the beginning of the I PU course.
