New Delhi: Delhi chief minister designate and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal will take oath with six ministers on Saturday and he has indicated that he would overcome hurdles and bring in the anti-corruption Jan Lokpal bill within 15 days of stepping into the secretariat.
The rumblings within the Congress over extending outside support to the Kejriwal government continued while the AAP said it had not tied up with the Congress and the drubbed party was free to take a decision about its support.
Kejriwal, 45, will have to seek a trust vote within a week after the oath-taking ceremony at Ram Lila Ground on December 28, and since the Assembly sitting is not held on Saturday and Sunday, the probable date of trust vote would be January 6, sources indicated.
“Some provisions in the transaction of business rules of Delhi Assembly talk about seeking approval from the Central government on introducing some legislations,” said Kejriwal, pointing to the possible roadblock in the Jan Lokpal bill. “This is like the British era when decisions related to Indian government were taken in London. We will question this…(and) find a solution,” he said.
“Just wait and watch, we will not sit quietly. We will manage all the things to free the country (of corruption),” said Kejriwal, expressing confidence of taking his party’s anti-corruption campaign to the next level in the next 15 days.
His statement came on a day when his party warded off an embarrassing situation over Cabinet formation after MLA V K Binny seemed upset over his exclusion from Kejriwal’s team. Sources said meetings to advise and pacify Binny began on Tuesday night and went on till the early hours on Wednesday. “Party leaders Kumar Vishwas and Sanjay Singh were sent to Binny’s house who reminded him of putting in selfless service. A veiled warning of disciplinary action was also given,” said a source.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Binny denied any rift and claimed that the confusion was created by the media.
Kejriwal’s oath-taking date was finalised after President Pranab Mukherjee accepted the proposal on government formation by the AAP with Congress’ outside support and the Union Home Ministry forwarded the communication to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in the morning.
Meanwhile, some members of the Congress, which is supporting the minority government of the AAP from outside in the 70-member house, continued to complain about support given to Kejriwal.
Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said the party would not let AAP misuse their support to victimise Congress leaders.
