Mangaluru : An 11 year old girl from Mangaluru has donated her hair for the cause of cancer patients who lose their hair during treatment.
A sixth standard student Dilna Rajesh of the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Ekkur, has turned out to be a role model for many youngsters by donating her hair for a noble cause.
Dilna is the daughter of Rajesh Kumar Kankol, a reporter for Malayala Manorama in Mangaluru and K M Jamuna, Lecturer in Yenepoya Degree College.
The family had decided to donate Dilna’s hair when she was nine. With this objective in mind, she had not had a hair cut for the past two years. Though initially it was decided to donate her hair on her 11th birthday on January 14 this year, it was not possible due to Covid pandemic and lookdown. Therefore the hair was donated on September 22.
The hair has been sent to the Hair Bank run by the Miracle Charitable Association of Thrissur in Kerala which prepares wigs for cancer patients.
Dilna says she decided to donate her hair on seeing some cancer patients who were under treatment at a health facility at Tiruvananthapuram. She says she would again donate her hair once it grows long.
