Thiruvananthapuram : Muslims across Kerala today gathered in mosques and special prayer centres to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice.
Prayers were conducted at various mosques in the state on the occasion.
Eid prayers were conducted this morning at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium under the aegis of Palayam Muslim Jamaath. Moulavi Jamaludheen Mankada led the Eid prayers.
Huge crowds were seen in the Muslim-dominated Malappuram district as well as in places like Kozhikode and Kochi.
Bakrid commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son on Allah’s command.
All educational institutions would remain closed tomorrow as the State Government had declared public holiday on November eight also.
