Ernakulam: 7 more districts of coastal state Kerala went to polls in electing local bodies (municipal) in the second (ll) phase of civic elections today, Monday, 25th Oct. 70% voting was reported which is slightly less than what was reported in phase l of 7 districts other than these. There was 1.23 crore voters in this second phase.
Ernakulam was one among the seven districts gone to polls today, the others being mostly in central Kerala. The voting ranged from 69% (Ernakulam) , 70% in Kottayam. 70% Alappuzha , , 70%, Idukki , 69% Thrissur, 70% Palakkad and 71% Malappuram. Elections covered GPs, blocks, towns and cities in this phase.
The Election Commission had identified sensitive and more sensitive areas, to deploy security forces to guard against violence. The elections were largely fair and smooth in process. In the first phase, the voting was 75.72%, sources said.
