Mangalore : The Kerala students studying in various colleges in Mangalore formed a Human chain as a part of protest over Mullaperiyar dam issue from Town Hall to Nehru Maidan on November 30, 2011.

Speaking on the occasion, Nithin said that the 116-year-old dam is in danger and the region is witnessing a number of quakes which will destroy five district of Kareala like Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts.

This issue is being pending since past four months and the central government and Tamil Nadu government is not taking any action over this issue.

He said that the increase in inflow into the reservoir above the maximum permissible storage level of 136 feet has heightened fears about the safety of the dam among people in the area and adjoining districts. Hence he demanded to decrease the water to 120 ft and demand for building a new dam at Mullaperiyar.
