Karkala :The police have arrested of Keralan origin for allegedly storing 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate a key raw materials for assembling bombs, at Durga Tellaru near here near Karkala on Thursday, October 22.

According to the police, Biju T K allegedly stocked ammonium nitrate at his farm in Durga Tellaru near Karkala bordering Kerala. Based on credible information, the police raided the farm on October 22 and Biju, who was absconding, was arrested the next day.

The police suspect that ammonium nitrate could be meant for Naxalites, who are active in the Western Ghats. Ammonium nitrate can be stocked and supplied only by license-holders and it is extensively used in mining and quarrying to carry out blasting work.

For several years, the police have been trying to isolate the Naxalites from the rest of the world. Interrogation of Biju will reveal the destination of ammonium nitrate.
