Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court Tuesday has imposed a penalty of Rs.50.000 on 3 govt. officials for filing an appeal in High court before the contractor Co. could do maintenance work on NH 48 between Bangalore and Mangalore.
The Chief Engineer (NHAI) executive engineer (NH Mangalore division) and Secretary to PWD were the officials who came under the wrath of KHC. The bench had a single Judge V.G.Sabhahit. He observed that the NH was in a bad shape and needed urgent maintenance. People had suffered due to the poor state of the highway.
Instead of allowing repair works by the contractor co., ( Durga Construction), official went the wrong way, which could be tolerated, even as an appeal to HC. The 3 officials were fit to be penalized, the bench observed.
