Bangalore: The state High Court issued a stay order on Friday to the BJP Government against the proposal to close down or merge with other schools, primary classes having each less than five students.
Under a circular received from the UPA Central Government the stat government had taken a decision to close those classes having less than 5 students in Kannada schools.
This did not apply to English medium schools. But the decision ran into rough weather, as pro-kannada institutions and great men of letters opposed any Kannada schools being closed down or getting merged with another such school, for an increased attendance.
Several award-winning writers had questioned the wisdom of the BJP Government of putting a stop to Kannada schools having no quorum of students.
Some of them, like Chandrasekhar Patil (former chief of KSP) and poet Channaveera Kanavi, questioned the stand taken by the state, to appeal to the High Court to intervene.
On Friday, the Karnataka High court issued an interim stay order and asked the government to maintain status-quo, until further notice.
It only showed how patriotic is BJP about Kannada in Karnataka.
