New Delhi : Actor-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Khushbu Sundar joined the BJP in the presence of BJP General Secretary CT Ravi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and other members of the saffron party.
Khushbu Sundar joined the BJP hours after she resigned from the primary membership of Congress, alleging “suppression”. She had joined the Congress in 2014.
After joining the BJP, Khushbu Sundar said she, “Over the time I have realised that the country need someone like PM Narendra Modi to take the country in the right direction.”
Earlier in the day, Khushbu Sundar resigned from the Congress, saying that she was being “pushed and suppressed” by “few elements” seated at a higher level within the party.
In a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Khushbu Sundar said, “A few elements seated at a higher level within the party, people who have no connectivity with the ground reality or public recognition are dictating terms and people like me who wanted to work for the party sincerely, are being pushed and suppressed.”
Following this, Congress removed Khushbu Sundar as its spokesperson.
Khushbu Sundar had first triggered the rumours of a rift with the Congress in July 2020 when she backed the centre government’s National Education Policy.
On Sunday, Khushbu Sundar left for Delhi, triggering speculation that she would be joining the BJP. At around 2 pm on Monday, Khushbu Sundar joined the BJP.
