Hubli : 1st DDCA All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organised by Dharwad District Chess Association under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association and All India Chess Federation is in its second day at Hebsur Bhavan, Green Garden, Gokul Road, Hubli.
In the 2nd round, Playing from black side, Manoj R, 9th std boy of Vijaya English School, Hassan, Karnataka opted Petroff defense against Higher seed Gahan M G of Mangalore. In eleventh move Gahan captured Bishop which created weakness in his king side. Utilising the weakness, Manoj attacked from king side and won the game in 68 moves.
In the 3rd round, Santu Modal of West Bengal played queens pawn opening with Arjun U Prabhu of Shimoga. Santu Mondal was Rook up and clear winning, but Arjun stopped him by giving three fold repetition and shared points after 39 moves.
Kishan Gangolli, Silver medalist of National open FIDE Rated tournament for blinds 2010 at Haryana, of Shimoga played Londan system with 5th seed Rupankar Nath of West Bengal. Kishan played theoretical move and got advantage in the opening itself. The experienced and higher ranked Rupankar could not stop the attack from queen side. Rupankar resigned the game at 33 moves.
Kantilal Dave (2164)(DOB 14.11.1956), former National B joint winner (1991 at Calicut), National A Player from Rajatan played English opening with Sameer Ghotane of Karnataka. Sameer was under pressure from the beginning because of playing with higher Rating player. Kantilal played aggressive game and Won in 34 moves.
Playing with white pieces, Vijendra Y G, Former Karnataka State Champion, of Mysore irregular opening with Barul Pal of West Bengal. Vijendra won a pawn tactically in the opening and continued the attack and finally won the game in 48 moves.
Gopalkrishna P (2045), former National A Player, of Mangalore played with Hanumantha R of LIC. Hanumantha(1804) opted center counter gambit and drew the game in 12 moves.
Mr Vinay Kurtkoti (2056) of Dharwad played Londen system with Atul Mahashabde of Gujrat. Atul blundered his queen in the early game then Vinay won the game easily after 14 moves.
