Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada district committee of the Karnataka Janatha Party staged a protest in front of the DC office in Mangalore on December 26, Wednesday urging the state government to release funds under various welfare schemes.
Addressing the protestors, Mariamma Thomas, KJP State Executive Committee Member said as many as 57,780 beneficiaries of Bhagyalakshmi Scheme, have not been distributed bonds since September 2011. Even nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries from across the state have not received their monthly pension under Sandhya Suraksha, disabled pension and pension for widows scheme since March 2012, she alleged.
The government has not distributed Rs 267 crore loan at 0 per cent interest as announced in the budget. The milk unions have also not received the Rs 2 subsidy per litre of milk since October 2012, she alleged.
Mariamma Thomas further said the failure of the government to release funds for the above schemes has hit hard thousands of people including widows, disabled and senior citizens.
She also alleged that the administrative machinery in the state has come to a standstill and threatened that the KJP would take to the streets and launch a statewide movement against the government apathy.
Jagadish Hiremani, State Secretary, Balakrishna Borker, District Convenor, Ramachandra Baikampady, State Secretary, Srinivas Shetty, Kamaraj Rai, Azeez Baikampady, Ujire Ravindra, Shivaprasad and others were present.
