Mangalore : AG Kodgi, Chairman of the Third State Finance Commission Task Force has directed the MCC officials to ensure stesp to see that meters are installed by all water consumers.
Addressing a meeting with MCC officials and corporators at the MCC meeting hall on May 8, Tuesday, Kodgi virtually took the MCC officials to task for failing to regulate the use of water and said meters are a must for every tap water connection to prevent excessive use of water. He also instructed the MCC to initiate strict action against the defaulters.
Kodgi said he was not ready to accept the argument that drinking water was scarce in the city limits and adde the problem was in the distribution network.
He also directed the revenue officials to identify all unauthorized buildings within the next one month. Kodgi was also not happy with the information on unauthorized constructions furnished to him by the MCC officials.
On the property tax issue he said private halls as well as educational institutions which provide their halls free of cost for functions are exempted from property tax while the rest will have to pay tax.
