Mangalore: Kodi bettu Rajalkshmi received the first Sarah Aboobaker awards, conferred by coastal Women writers and Readers ‘ Guild in its 25th year celebrations, at the Sahitya Sadana in city, on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion after receiving her prize, she said coastal Karnataka failed to depict in literary field certain recent adverse developments on communal riots and moral policing, as the disturbing trends did not figure in local literature.
The wrong type of carried on their hero-worshipping episodes unstead of shedding light on disturbances that took place in society, socially and in matters of religion.
Ms. K. Rajalkshmi is a senior correspondent in the daily Vijaya Karnataka in Mangalore.
She complained that some writers got into literature only appease their bosses or patrons to bag favours. But literary organisations should fight such persons and trends, to bring about a healthy change in literature she pointed out.
Her awards-winning short stories collection ‘Ondu Mushti Nakshatra (a hand ful stars) was dedicated to her father.
